Students will be learning ways that Indigenous People have used plants medicinally by listening to a read aloud, learning about important medicinal plants in Alaska, and making a salve from Devil's Club oil.

Unlock your child's reading potential with our Science of Reading workshops designed for homeschool parents and their children. Come to any workshop you like. These hands-on workshops will equip you as parents with tools and techniques to create a solid foundation for reading success. Your children will be in their own workshop learning and participating in fun hands-on activities at the same time.
Week 1: Phonemic Awareness: A foundational skill that all other reading skills build upon. Phonemic awareness is the ability to hear and manipulate individual sounds in the English language.
Week 2: Phonics: The matching of spoken sounds to written letters and how to blend those letters and sounds into words.
Week 3: Fluency: The ability to read accurately, with expression and at a rate that allows for understanding.
Week 4: Vocabulary: Vocabulary instruction is essential as it builds the knowledge of words that students will need to understand as well as to communicate.
Week 5: Comprehension: The ability to derive meaning from text. It is an outcome of the abilities to read and understand language.
