This is a dissection workshop that takes a deeper look at systems: respiratory, circulatory and digestive. We go further by comparing the body systems of salmon with humans. They both have hearts and blood, breathe and exchange carbon dioxide for oxygen. We explore how these systems are similar and different.  This workshop helps develop skills in dissection, observation, systems and critical thinking. It is an excellent complement to biology and anatomy.

The Chinook Salmon is Alaska’s state fish. Most of us have interacted with salmon in some way; fishing, eating, reading about or viewing. This workshop looks at the science of salmon, exploring their life cycle, what it means to be anadromous, how they make their way from the ocean to birth stream and their cultural relevance. We will dissect adult spawning salmon and learn about their body organs and structure. This is an inquiry based, hands on workshop. It includes math, art, dissection and game playing!
