Student Entrepreneurial Day 10am-3pm off site

This is a day when our wonderful area homeschooling students can experience entrepreneurialship.  Pre-registration is required. Set-up is 9-10am and break-down is from 3-4pm. PAC sponsored event. Open to all homeschooling students.

Math Club for IDEA students grades 4-8 from 10:00-11:00am

Math Club: IDEA is proud to announce that we will once again be hosting a MATH CLUB this year! We are honored to have as our coach the awesome math and science teacher, Dr. Mike Donaldson, PhD. (Mike loves to incorporate science with mathematics which is a real BLAST!) MATH CLUB is for all IDEA students in grades 4-8. Your student will be engaged in hands-on mathematics and develop a strong foundational background in math as well as having a fun with other students. MATH CLUB incorporates MATH COUNTS which is a national middle school coaching and competitive mathematics program that promotes mathematics achievement through a series of fun and engaging “bee” style contests. There is a registration fee of $30 dollars and students are required to purchase a calculator. This money can be taken out of your allotment. Chess Club for all IDEA families 1:30-2:30pm

Chess Club: Meets the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of the month from 1:30-2:30 at the IDEA office. For IDEA students of all ages and family members. This is not a drop off event except for kids in 9th grade or above. An adult must accompany students 8th grade of younger. Bring your chess board and be ready to have a fantastic time. Adults can play too! IDEA Student Cookie Baking/Candy Making Contest 2-3pm

We invite all IDEA students to participate in our Student Cookie Baking/Candy Making Contest. The contest will be from 2:00–3:00pm. Anyone who attends can be a judge and can choose the category they will be a judge in. Students who have entered the contest cannot be judges in the category they have entered but they can be judges in another category. 1st LEGO League Jr. - IDEA PARENT MEETING 12:30-2:00pm

Mandatory Parent Meeting for 1st  Lego League Jr.  For AGES 6-9 (IDEA students only).

What is FIRST© LEGO© League Jr.? Guided by adult Coaches and FIRST© LEGO© League Jr. Core Values, students work with LEGO© elements and motorized parts to build ideas and concepts and present them for review. The program focuses on building interest in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) through a real-world challenge – to be solved by research, critical thinking, and imagination.

Meetings will be every Monday beginning Dec 10 and concluding April 29. The only Monday omitted will be April 1 because of state testing. Each  meeting will be from 12:30-2:00pm at IDEA. PAC (Parent Advisory Committee):  First meeting will be Monday, Aug 13. The PAC meets the 2nd Monday of the month from 3-4:30pm @ IDEA. This is a wonderful time to get together with other IDEA parents to talk about homeschooling issues which are important to you, ask questions, help plan activities and events for your children, and meet some really awesome folks. Whether you have been homeschooling for years or are just brand new to IDEA we welcome you. IDEA parent Jen Schutte is PAC Chairwoman. LEGO Robotics Competition at Weller Elementary 8am-4pm

One particularly awesome event is the LEGO Robotics competition which IDEA is sponsoring. Thanks to the hard work of our Site Administrator Dawn Cogan, we are “doing” this event and all the accoutrements that go with it. Thanks to all those who are volunteering and participating. There will be 27 teams from the interior including teams from IDEA. Come and see this exciting competition on Sat Dec 15 at Weller Elementary School located on Elementary Dr.

From Fairbanks take Steese Expwy to Chena Hot Springs Rd. turn right. Continue several miles to Elementary Dr. Turn left onto Elementary Dr. and follow it to the school.
