IDEA Curriculum Fair 2008: Welcome and Overview for Attendees

You are invited to the Tenth Annual IDEA Curriculum Fair, hosted by the Galena City School District!

IDEA is pleased to again present this opportunity to homeschoolers and other parents and/or educators in Alaska and we look forward to sharing this exciting event with you in April 2008!

Schedule of events, floor-plans, workshop schedule, and maps:

- Anchorage
- Fairbanks
- Juneau
- Soldotna

Over 60 curricular vendors, both local and from out of state, will be participating, with many sharing their knowledge and experience in workshops that are guaranteed to encourage, inform, and motivate you!

Keynote speaker Debra Bell - You may already be familiar with Debra Bell, because she wrote the highly-acclaimed (currently sold-out) book, The Ultimate Guide to Homeschooling. What gives Debra Bell the credentials to speak to you about homeschooling? She has four grown and graduated children, all homeschooled from day one. She knows about juggling babies and toddlers and school, and has accomplished multi-level teaching. She has navigated the seas of high school and college. In short, Debra Bell is a wealth of information, encouragement, solutions, ideas and inspiration for homeschoolers at every stage of the journey. Debra is a sought-after, dynamic speaker who will make you laugh, cry, and send you home with renewed energy and purpose in your homeschooling adventure. Thank you to Rainbow Resource Center for partnering with us financially to bring Debra to Alaska!

Other special speakers include Brian Wasko and Steve Clark - Brian Wasko is passionate about effective communication and about encouraging homeschooling parents who have devoted themselves to their children's education. Brian’s humorous, informal speaking style is popular with audiences young and old. Steve Clark is a homeschool dad who was won over to homeschooling by families he met at homeschool conferences while promoting his products! His workshops are a joyous celebration of this wonderful lifestyle.

Entrance Fee - The exhibits and workshops are provided at no charge to IDEA families. Non-IDEA families are welcome and may purchase at the Fair. Click here for an explanation of fees.

Keynote Fee - Pre-registration is required to attend the Keynote meal. There is a small separate fee for each person attending, whether they are in IDEA or not. Click on the name of your location on the top left or the "keynote meal" link for more information.

Purchases - Returning IDEA families who have re-enrolled for the 2008-2009 school year may use their allotment to pre-purchase at the Fair. Others must use cash, checks, or credit cards, depending on vendors' preferences.

Hand-outs - There will be a limited number of booklets available at the door with floor-plans and information about the workshops and Fair Specials offered by the exhibitors. We will also be handing you sacks with catalogs and flyers from vendors that could not come in person, but wanted to participate.

Children - While you are welcome to bring your children, there will be no special program for them.  Please keep in mind that all children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult at all times. We encourage you to seek child care so that you can fully participate in the workshops and visit freely with vendors.
